Chelsea vs Tottenham

Fourth-placed Chelsea host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 24, with kick-off at 5.30pm BST (10.30am in Mexico City), in Matchweek 8 of the Premier League.

The Blues have 13 points from seven games, while the Lilywhites sit 16th on six.

Match preview

Chelsea come into this one in strong form under Xabi Alonso. They have won their last two league games by an aggregate of 7-1, beating Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge and Everton 2-0 on Merseyside.

Before that, they lost 3-0 at Brentford and drew 2-2 with Hull City. In the League Cup, they beat Leeds 6-3 on September 9.

The hosts are unbeaten at home, with two wins and a draw from three games. They have scored 11 and conceded six, so goals have come at both ends.

Joao Pedro leads the club's scoring charts with five, ahead of Morgan Rogers on four and Pedro Neto on three, with Neto scoring twice against Everton. That win also brought Chelsea's first league clean sheet since January.

Tottenham, managed by Roberto De Zerbi, have made an uneven start. They arrive on the back of a 3-1 win over Coventry City, their first league victory of the season, after a 1-1 draw at Manchester United and a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Spurs lost 3-1 to Liverpool in the League Cup on September 15, three days after a 0-0 draw with Everton. They have six points from seven games.

Away from home, Tottenham are still waiting for a win, with two draws and a defeat from three. They have scored once and conceded four on the road. At home, they have won one, drawn one and lost two.

The recent head-to-head favours Chelsea, who have won the last four league meetings: 2-1 (May 19, 2026), 1-0 (November 2025), 1-0 (April 2025) and 4-3 (December 2024). They scored in all four. Spurs did win a friendly 2-1 on August 1.

The table adds spice. Chelsea want to cement their place in the top four, while Tottenham need points to climb away from the bottom half. Chris Kavanagh is the referee.

Team news

Chelsea have several absentees. Emiliano Martinez is out for multiple weeks with a fractured jaw, and Reece James is sidelined for the rest of the year after minor knee surgery. Gittens is also out with an ankle problem. Mike Penders is expected to start in goal, which would be his first Premier League start.

Pep Chavarria is a major doubt after picking up an injury in training. Malo Gusto has had a week to recover from illness, while Emegha is questionable with a muscle problem.

Tottenham are without the suspended Rodrigo Bentancur following his red card. Lucas Bergvall, Mudryk, Simons and Savio are also sidelined through injury. Pedro Porro could return from a muscle issue, but Destiny Udogie remains doubtful with a knee problem. Marmoush, Robertson and Adarabioyo were substituted against Coventry, though De Zerbi said none of them suffered a setback.

We say
Chelsea2 - 1Tottenham

Chelsea have the better goalscoring form and a solid home record, while Tottenham have managed one goal in three away games. Even so, Penders' first league start and the space in front of Chelsea's back three give Maddison and Kudus a chance to hurt the hosts. We expect Chelsea to edge it, 2-1.
