Preview: Club Brugge KV vs. Lens · prediction, team news, line-ups
Club Brugge host Lens at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday, 21 October, with kick-off at 13:00 CDMX, in matchday three of the Champions League league phase.
The Belgian side are 16th and the French side 19th, both on three points from two games.
Match preview
Brugge arrive on a run of five straight wins in all competitions. They beat Lokeren-Temse 1-0 in the cup, Inter 4-3, RAAL La Louviere 4-1, Genk 3-0 and Antwerp 3-1.
That sequence has produced 15 goals scored and only five conceded. The high point came at San Siro, where Nicolo Tresoldi's hat-trick and a fourth from Romeo Vermant sealed a 4-3 win over Inter.
Their European home record is less impressive. Their only Champions League game at the Jan Breydel ended in a 3-2 defeat, and they have scored six and conceded six in the competition, leaving a goal difference of zero.
Tresoldi has scored four of Brugge's six Champions League goals. Flashscore reports that he has scored in ten consecutive matches, while Sports Mole credits him with nine goals in 12 appearances this season.
Brugge have won their last two meetings with French opposition, both at home: 4-1 against Monaco in September 2025 and 3-0 against Marseille in January. Ivan Leko is expected to field the side that won in Milan.
Lens are a different proposition under Yannick Cahuzac, who replaced Dino Toppmoller last month. He has alternated between defeat and victory in his first four games, and his side won 3-1 at Troyes in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
Before that, they lost 2-0 at home to Sporting CP in the Champions League. In the league they beat Lyon 2-1 and lost 2-1 to Monaco, and they sit eighth in Ligue 1, four points off the top.
On their only European away trip, Lens won 3-2. Across their last five games, they have scored eight and conceded six, including a friendly. Florian Thauvin was involved in two goals against Troyes.
This is the first meeting between the clubs, with no previous competitive history. They are two of the 13 teams in the 36-team table on three points, so either result could shift the standings a long way.

Team news
Brugge have just one confirmed absentee in Ecuador defender Joel Ordonez, who is out with a foot injury. Brandon Mechele and Carlos Forbs were rested after the trip to Milan, trained this week and are available, according to VoetbalNieuws. Jorne Spileers has also come through his fitness problem and played in the cup.
Lens will be without Jonathan Gradit and Abdallah Sima, who both have muscle injuries, and Ismaelo Ganiou and Maik Nawrocki, who are out with knee problems. Mamadou Diarra and Ilan Jourdren are listed as off the roster.
Ruben Aguilar is doubtful with an ankle issue. Jean-Clair Todibo took a knock against Troyes but is fit to play. UEFA projects Todibo in a back three, with Thauvin, Edouard and Kadile leading the attack.
Brugge bring five straight wins, an in-form striker and home advantage, even if their defence concedes regularly. Lens have quality in Thauvin, but their absentees and inconsistency count against them. We expect an open game and a narrow home victory, with Brugge edging it 2-1.
