Monterrey vs Guadalajara Chivas

Monterrey host Chivas at the Estadio BBVA on Saturday, October 24 at 18:00 Mexico City time, in Matchday 14 of the Liga MX Apertura 2026.

Los Rayados sit seventh with 20 points from 12 games. Guadalajara are second on 23 points from 13 matches.

Match preview

Monterrey arrive on a run of two straight league wins. They thrashed Puebla 4-1 away on October 22, three days after beating Pachuca 2-1 at home.

Before that, they drew 1-1 with América on October 11 and lost 4-2 to Atlante on September 26. They also beat Toluca 2-1 in a friendly on October 3.

The BBVA has been their stronghold. At home they have won four, drawn one and lost one from six, scoring 13 and conceding seven. Away from home, they have won two, drawn one and lost three.

Lucas Ocampos leads the scoring with six goals, while Diego Rossi has five. Hugo Cuypers and Jesus Corona complete an attack that Matías Almeyda is starting to settle. The Argentine also faces the club where he enjoyed one of his best-remembered spells.

Chivas are second on 23 points. They beat Necaxa 1-0 on October 21 thanks to a 77th-minute own goal, ending a run of four games without a win.

Before that, they drew 1-1 with Tigres and 1-1 with Atlas, and lost 2-0 to Querétaro on September 26. In a friendly on October 5, they beat América 2-0.

Away from home, the Rebaño remain unbeaten, with two wins and four draws from six, scoring nine and conceding five. At home they have won four, drawn one and lost two.

The recent head-to-head favours Chivas. They have won three of the last five Liga MX meetings: 2-0 in March 2024, 4-2 in November 2025 and 3-2 at the BBVA on March 22, 2026. Monterrey won 3-1 in April 2025, and September 2024 ended 1-1.

The stakes are high. Defeat could drop Monterrey out of the Liguilla places, while Chivas want to stay among the leaders with three rounds left.

Team news

Monterrey report only one absentee, Serbian striker Uros Djurdjevic. Corona is expected back in the XI after the win at Puebla, and sources differ on the attacking midfield, where Diego Rossi and Óliver Torres are competing for a place.

Chivas have bigger problems. Luis Romo, Omar Govea, José Castillo, Miguel Tapias and Ángel Sepúlveda remain out. Brian Gutiérrez was rested as a precaution during the week and his availability is unclear, with one source tipping a return and another listing him as out.

With so many absentees at the back, Dani Aguirre remains a fixture in defence. The published predicted lineups point to a 4-2-3-1 for Monterrey and a 3-4-2-1 for Chivas.

We say
Monterrey2 - 1Chivas

Monterrey have the better momentum and a productive home record, with 13 goals in six games at the BBVA. Chivas are unbeaten on the road and hold the recent head-to-head edge, so this should be tight. The hosts have more attacking variety and can edge it by a single goal. Score: 2-1.
