Atletico Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruna

Atletico Madrid welcome Deportivo La Coruna to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday 24 October for matchday 10 of LaLiga, with kick-off at 13:00 Mexico City time.

Second-placed Atletico sit on 22 points, while ninth-placed Deportivo have 11 after nine games.

Match preview

Atletico are second in the table with 22 points, a goal difference of +11 and 19 goals scored against 8 conceded after nine games. They are unbeaten in their last five matches, with four wins and a draw.

At home, Diego Simeone's side have won three and drawn one from four, scoring 10 and conceding only 3. Away from the Metropolitano, they have four wins and one defeat.

Recent form is strong. Atletico beat Real Madrid 2-1 on 20 September, won 2-1 at Alaves on 10 October and edged Espanyol 1-0 on 17 October. In between, they beat Manchester United 2-0 in the Champions League before drawing 1-1 at Stuttgart on Tuesday.

Alex Baena leads the scoring charts with five goals, while Jonathan David has three. Simeone has confirmed he wants to pair David with Julian Alvarez in attack.

Deportivo are back in the top flight after eight years away and sit ninth on 11 points, with a goal difference of +1 and 13 goals scored against 12 conceded.

They started strongly with a 3-2 win at Villarreal but have gone five league games without a victory since. They drew 1-1 with Levante on 16 October, lost 3-2 to Real Sociedad on 11 October and drew 1-1 with Real Betis on 20 September.

On the road, Deportivo have one win, two draws and one defeat, scoring 7 and conceding 7. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is their top scorer with five goals but is injured. Bil Nsongo scored against Levante.

The recent head-to-head favours Atletico. Four of the last five meetings finished 1-0 to the Madrid side, with the other ending 1-1. The most recent was in the Copa del Rey on 13 January 2026, when Atletico won at Riazor.

Deportivo have not visited the Metropolitano in the top flight since 2018 and bring Jose Maria Gimenez, a club icon at Atletico, in their squad. Atletico are also exempt from next week's Copa round.

Team news

Atletico have notable absentees. Koke remains out with a muscle injury to his left thigh, and Cristian Romero is still sidelined after the problem he suffered against Espanyol. FutbolFantasy reports that neither is expected to be available.

Johnny Cardoso is listed as injured with a thigh problem, although the Spanish press has him recovered from an illness and back in the squad. Simeone played down the injury list with a message that he needs everybody.

For Deportivo, Antonio Hidalgo has Amatucci back after the midfielder served his one-match ban for a red card, but he loses Bright Ede to injury. Aubameyang (knee), Carrillo (muscle), Casado (collarbone) and Eddahchouri (wrist) remain out. Hidalgo did not guarantee Leo Roman's place in goal.

We say
Atlético de Madrid2 - 0Deportivo

Atletico arrive with rhythm, home solidity and a deep squad, even without Koke and Romero. Deportivo are winless in five league games and lack Aubameyang, their top scorer. The head-to-head points to a low-scoring contest, but the gap in quality should tilt this in the hosts' favour. Prediction: Atletico Madrid 2-0 Deportivo La Coruna.
