Havertz strikes as Arsenal win 1-0 at Anfield
Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield in Premier League matchday 9. Kai Havertz scored in the 16th minute, set up by Declan Rice, and that proved enough. Liverpool had more of the ball and more shots but could not find an equaliser.
The only goal came early. In the 16th minute, Havertz finished after an assist from Rice. It was 1-0 at the break and the scoreline did not change after that.
Liverpool led the numbers. They had 56% possession, 17 shots to 10 and seven corners to four. The expected goals were close, though, at 1.23 for the hosts and 1.02 for the visitors. Arsenal had three shots on target and scored with one.
It was a niggly contest. Liverpool committed 18 fouls to Arsenal's 10. Each side picked up four yellow cards and there were no sendings off. Andrew Madley was the referee.
