Gil Mora turns 18: the contract detail that could bring him closer to Europe
The midfielder has cleared FIFA's age threshold for international transfers, and his Xolos extension includes an exit route. His destination and the terms of any potential move remain unknown.

Gilberto Mora turned 18 on Oct. 14, but his jump to Europe takes more than reaching adulthood. The Mexican still belongs to Xolos, under a contract through 2029 that includes a mechanism for a possible exit.
That detail was set out in the extension announced in June. The club explained that the route was designed together with the player and his agent, Rafaela Pimenta. The mechanism's existence is confirmed; its full terms were not made public in that announcement.
At 18, Mora is no longer subject to the general ban on international transfers of minors under FIFA regulations. His contract with Tijuana remains in force, and any move requires settling his exit and meeting the registration deadlines of his new club.
Liverpool and PSG are among the clubs he has been linked with. As of Oct. 27, no European destination has been officially announced.
Pimenta has also said the choice goes beyond the name of the club. She is looking for a structure and a coach that will support the player's development. January 2027 marks the next winter window for Europe's top leagues, though that does not set a departure date for Mora.
In the meantime, the youngster has returned to first-team training. Sergio Almaguer, Sebastián Abreu's assistant, confirmed that he is working with the squad and explained that his return to matches will be gradual, depending on how he responds after each session.
“He needs his space, his time, and he doesn’t need pressure,” Pimenta urged in October when discussing Mora’s future.Have you seen this round's previews?See previews →
