Predicted line-ups, prediction and how to watch for Newcastle vs Everton: everything you need to know before the game.

Newcastle United welcome Everton to St James' Park on Monday, 2 November, with kickoff at 8pm GMT in Matchweek 9 of the Premier League.

The Magpies are 12th with 11 points, while the Toffees sit 14th on 10 and arrive four days after knocking Newcastle out of the Carabao Cup.

Match preview

Newcastle have made an uneven start to the season. They have 11 points from eight games, with 12 goals scored and 14 conceded. At home they have won once, drawn twice and lost once.

Recent form is poor: a 3-1 defeat at Everton in the Carabao Cup on 29 October, a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace, a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa and a 4-1 hammering at Coventry. Before that, they beat Hull City 2-1.

At St James' Park they have scored 6 and conceded 6 in four league games. Sports Mole note that they have scored at least twice in all but one of their home games this season.

In the cup tie, Matthias Jaissle's side pushed hard after the break, but Thierno Barry's goal settled the contest and Dan Burn's consolation came late.

Everton have 10 points and a goal difference of -1. They have scored 8 goals in eight league games. Away from home they are winless, with three draws and one defeat from four trips, scoring 3 and conceding 5.

In the league they lost 2-0 to Arsenal and 2-0 to Chelsea, drew 2-2 at Hull City and beat Ipswich 1-0. The 3-1 win over Newcastle in the cup gave them a lift.

Barry leads the Toffees with 3 goals. The striker was prominent again on Thursday and remains the main threat for the visitors.

The recent head-to-head favours Everton, who have won four of the last five meetings: 3-1 in the cup, 3-1 in the friendly on 12 August, 3-2 at St James' Park on 28 February and 1-0 in May 2025. Newcastle won 4-1 at Goodison Park on 29 November 2025.

Both clubs are in mid-table, two places and one point apart. This is the second meeting in five days, and the result could open a gap between two sides looking to move away from the middle of the pack.

Team news

Newcastle have two absentees: Ewen Jaouen with a muscle injury and Tino Livramento with a knee problem. Lewis Miley, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Will Osula are doubts. Osula hurt his ankle in the cup tie and Yoane Wissa replaced him at the break, so local reports expect Wissa to lead the line.

Everton hope to have Jarrad Branthwaite, who was in concussion protocols and who David Moyes expects to be fit. Jack Grealish is listed as a doubt through illness. English outlets report he was left out of the cup tie for a disciplinary breach and that his involvement is not guaranteed.

The starting XIs listed are press projections rather than confirmed teams.

We think Newcastle will edge it 2-1. They score regularly at home and need a reaction after the cup exit, while Everton are still looking for their first away win of the season. The Toffees have the recent head-to-head and Barry, so we expect a tight contest settled by fine margins.
