Jorge Sánchez left out of Mexico's squad: shake-up at right back
The defender is not on Rafael Márquez's 28-man list to face Jamaica. Rodrigo Huescas and Kevin Álvarez are among the options for the position.

Jorge Sánchez will be one of Mexico's absentees for the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals. His name does not appear on the 28-man list Rafael Márquez picked for the series against Jamaica.
His absence comes with changes at his position. Rodrigo Huescas, who plays as a right back and wing back for Copenhagen, and Kevin Álvarez are both in the squad. At right back, Márquez will have more options than in his first camp.
From starter to off the list
Sánchez was part of the group for the September and October friendlies at the start of the new coach's tenure: he played against Colombia and started against Chile. Now he misses a camp just as Mexico move from friendlies to competitive games. No reason for his exclusion has been given so far.
- Goalkeepers: 3
- Defenders: 9 (Diego Campillo, Johan Vásquez, Jesús Orozco Chiquete, César Montes, Israel Reyes, Rodrigo Huescas, Kevin Álvarez, Jesús Gallardo and Mateo Chávez)
- Midfielders: 9
- Forwards: 7
A series that counts
Mexico head into this test without a win under Márquez: two draws and two defeats in his first four games. The series against Jamaica is for a place in the 2027 Final Four and will offer a first look at the options the coach prefers when results matter.
The series schedule
| Match | Date | Stadium |
|---|---|---|
| Jamaica vs. Mexico (1st leg) | Friday, November 14 | National Stadium, Kingston |
| Mexico vs. Jamaica (2nd leg) | Tuesday, November 17 | Estadio BBVA, Monterrey |
For Sánchez, being left out means his rivals get two competitive games to earn a place on the next list.
