Manchester United have collected just 7 points from nine games and sit 17th with a goal difference of -5. It is the club's worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Their home record is modest, with one win, one draw and two defeats from four matches, scoring 6 and conceding 7. Old Trafford has offered little comfort this season.

Recent form has been patchy. United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth on 25 October, drew 1-1 at Leeds and then lost 2-0 at Chelsea on 31 October. A 4-1 defeat at Como in the Champions League came in between.

Relief arrived on Tuesday in a 3-2 Champions League win over Roma. Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty and Matheus Cunha struck a late brace to complete the turnaround. Bryan Mbeumo is the team's top scorer with 4.

Aston Villa are 10th on 12 points with a goal difference of -3. Away from home they have won two, drawn one and lost one from four, scoring 4 and conceding 6.

Their form is mixed. They beat Manchester City 2-1 on 24 October but are winless in three, having lost 3-0 to Bournemouth in the League Cup, drawn 1-1 with Fulham in the league and lost 3-0 at Barcelona in the Champions League.

Nicolas Jackson leads the visitors with 5 goals. Their last win before this run was a 3-1 success over Viking in the Champions League on 21 October.

The recent head-to-head favours United, who have won three of the last five Premier League meetings, lost one and drawn one. They won 3-1 in March 2026 and 2-0 in May 2025, and took a 2-1 win at Villa Park in February 2024. Villa responded with a 2-1 victory in December 2025.

Team news

United will be without Lisandro Martinez, who serves a one-match suspension for his red card at Chelsea. Carlos Baleba pulled up with a muscle problem against Roma and is out. Luke Shaw remains sidelined, Manuel Ugarte is recovering from a cruciate ligament tear and Benjamin Sesko is out with a shin problem until the new year.

Marcus Rashford and Patrick Dorgu could return from injury, though both are most likely to begin on the bench. Ayden Heaven is expected to partner Harry Maguire at the back, with Diogo Dalot at left-back, Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans in midfield and Mbeumo leading the attack.

We have found no confirmed absences for Villa. One preview points to Alysson returning to the XI in place of Emiliano Buendia.
