Injury report, prediction and how to watch for Commanders vs Rams: everything you need to know before the game.

The Washington Commanders host the Los Angeles Rams in Week 9 at Northwest Stadium in Landover on Sunday, November 8, at 1pm ET (12:00 Mexico City time).

Washington are 2-4-1 and third in the NFC East. The Rams are 4-4 and third in the NFC West.

Match preview

Washington sit at 2-4-1 after a 27-10 win over the Eagles in Week 8. It is their second victory of the year, following the 33-31 win over the Seahawks in Week 3.

Before that, they lost 23-17 to the 49ers, tied the Giants 27-27 and fell 30-13 to the Colts. Through seven games they have scored 159 points, about 22.7 per game, and conceded 182, or 26.0.

The Commanders are 2-1-1 at home. Their defense allows a touchdown on 79.2% of opponent red-zone trips, 31st in the league. Their offense converts only 31.9% of third downs, also 31st.

Jayden Daniels is the headliner. He has not thrown an interception this season, has gone 145 straight passes without one and has 236 rushing yards, second on the team. Against the Eagles he went 16-of-29 for 217 yards and a touchdown. Washington have turned the ball over just three times all year.

The Rams are 4-4 and arrive on a two-game winning streak: 35-21 at Las Vegas in Week 7 and 24-9 over the Chargers in Week 8. Before that came losses of 18-16 to the Cardinals and 37-34 to the Bills.

They average 24.3 points and allow 21.0 per game (194 scored and 168 conceded in eight games). They are 2-1 on the road and 2-3 at home. Some 78.1% of their scoring plays are touchdowns, second best in the NFL.

Matthew Stafford has thrown four interceptions against extra pressure, and Washington blitz at the fourth-highest rate in the league. Five of his touchdowns have come off play action, and the Commanders have allowed only one of that kind. Against the Chargers he went 17-of-25 for 157 yards.

In the last five meetings, the Rams have won three: 28-20 in 2023, 30-10 in 2020 and 24-0 in 2014. Washington won 27-20 in 2017 and 24-10 in 2015.

The backdrop is an NFC playoff chase. Washington are 1-2-1 in division play and the Rams are 0-2, so every win carries weight as the season reaches its midpoint.

Injury report

Washington have ruled out receivers Treylon Burks (foot) and Dyami Brown (calf). Terry McLaurin is on injured reserve with a torn patellar tendon. Only Stefon Diggs and rookie Antonio Williams are active receivers with catches this season.

Defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton (pectoral) is questionable and must be activated from injured reserve. Tight end John Bates (shoulder), guard Sam Cosmi (knee) and tackle Shy Tuttle (shoulder) were limited in practice with no designation. Daniels (left elbow) was a full participant.

For the Rams, edge rusher Myles Garrett (knee) is expected to play after being activated from injured reserve, according to Sean McVay. Cornerback Trent McDuffie, tight end Colby Parkinson and safety Kam Curl are questionable. Tight end Terrance Ferguson is out with a hamstring injury. Running back Ronnie Rivers returns from injured reserve.

Our prediction
Commanders20 - 27Rams
38%Commanders62%Rams

We think the Rams will win a tight one, 27-20. Their offense turns drives into touchdowns efficiently, and Stafford gets the ball out quickly against the blitz. Washington struggle in the red zone and lack proven receivers. Daniels and clean ball security keep them in it, but a possible Garrett return tilts the finish.
