Goodbye to Mbappé's record! Lamine Yamal reaches 14 goals to become the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history
With his 7th-minute goal against Aston Villa, the Barcelona star reached 14 European Cup goals before turning 20, moving past the 13 Kylian Mbappé had scored.

Seven minutes at the Spotify Camp Nou were all it took for European football's history books to change hands. With his early goal against Aston Villa, Lamine Yamal reached 14 UEFA Champions League goals and became the highest-scoring teenager in the competition's history, moving past the mark of 13 he had shared with Kylian Mbappé.
The record-breaking moment followed a scare. Just a couple of minutes before celebrating, Barcelona's No. 10 set alarm bells ringing after a heavy fall from an Emiliano Buendía foul, but he was quickly back on his feet to press Villa's build-up.
Soon after, a risky pass from goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to João Gomes ended up at the Spanish winger's feet, and he punished the gift by sending it into the back of the net. It was his third goal of this campaign, after earlier strikes against Feyenoord and Paris Saint-Germain.
The highest-scoring teenagers in Champions League history.
| Player | Champions League goals before 20 | Games |
|---|---|---|
| Lamine Yamal | 14 | 37 |
| Kylian Mbappé | 13 | 23 |
| Erling Haaland | 10 | — |
With this goal in his 37th game in the competition, the La Masia star leaves behind the 13 goals Mbappé scored in 23 games before turning 20 with Monaco and PSG, as well as the 10 Erling Haaland managed as a teenager.

Most striking for the rest of Europe is how much room he still has to set an untouchable figure: at 19, and after finishing third in the recent 2026 Ballon d'Or, Yamal won't blow out 20 candles until July 13, 2027, so he has the whole season ahead to keep extending his own record.
